Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy. 1 Peter 1:8
This verse, from 1 Peter 1, is part of a passage in the first chapter of this epistle that I have put to memory this past year. I decided last Fall to start memorizing scripture again. It had been a few years since I dedicated myself to memorizing scripture daily, but I can tell you, it has truly been a rich blessing. Just so you know, I do not find memorizing easy. It takes me a good month chipping away at a chapter, reading it through each day, writing it out and doing whatever I can to know it inside and out. After about one month, in a section of scripture, I know it, and it is amazing having God’s word richly running through my thoughts. Even though I have spent years studying the Bible and preaching/teaching it, those passages I now know more intimately are revealing insights and treasures I had not seen before. God’s word is truly inspired in the deepest sense…every jot and tiddle. I challenge you to find a way to “hide God’s word in your heart” and watch how it affects your walk with Him. Even if you find memorizing a challenge, may I suggest finding a passage, a chapter, etc. and simply read it everyday for a month: you will know it after that.
Blessings,
Pastor Dave
